The Divisions for Special Education Services and Supports provide professional learning in the form of meetings that address the needs of special education teachers and administrators. These meetings provide professional learning and networking opportunities for special education educators in their area of specialty throughout the state.
Spring Sp Ed Leadership Meetings
The Spring Special Education Leadership Meeting is jointly sponsored by the Georgia Council of Administrators of Special Education (G-CASE) and the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE). This spring leadership meeting replaces the GaDOE special education regional trainings and meetings that had been held in the past throughout the state on a variety of topics of significant importance to special education.
Information for the currently scheduled meeting as well as handouts for the previous meetings can be accessed below.

The Special Education Leadership Development Academy (SELDA) is a series of six meetings that takes place throughout the school year for new special education directors and/or one additional person who have never attended a new Special Education Directors’ Academy. Work Sampling System ®
The Work Sampling System provides observational assessment to systematically document children's skills, knowledge, behavior, and academic accomplishments in seven domains. This reliable program enables continual progress monitoring from multiple sources, documented through developmental guidelines, checklists, and portfolios. Ongoing assessment is summarized three times per year (fall, winter, spring) for each child in an easy-to-read report that families can understand and administrators can readily use.
The GaDOE is currently piloting the Work Sampling System for preschool-aged special education students in over 40 school districts. For more information about our pilot, please contact Jan E. Stevenson at 404-657-9965 OR jstevenson@doe.k12.ga.us.
