Allen C. Rice, Vidalia- Rice is the president of Savannah Luggage Works. He and his brother David, started Savannah Luggage Works in 1978 with one person and one sewing machine. Today they employ 350 people in 3 state of the art plants in Vidalia and Swainsboro. Savannah Luggage Works specializes in military, industrial, and consumer products. Rice served in the United States Army Active Reserve for five and a half years. He also serves on the board of directors of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, is a former member of the state board of The Technical College System of Georgia, a Rotarian, and a current board member of the State Department of Education. Rice received a bachelor’s degree in textile management from Auburn University. He and his wife, Nancy, have two grown children.
