|Description of Duties:||
Under close to general supervision, leads other food service workers in the preparation, cooking, serving and distribution of food. Duties include, but are not limited to, operating and maintaining specialized food service equipment; performing general facility and equipment sanitation and maintenance in accordance with federal, state, and department guidelines; serving as lead worker to assigned food service workers; reviewing and meeting pre-established preparation schedules; training employees in the proper handling, cooking, storage, and serving of food; training employees in the proper utilization and maintenance of equipment; receiving and accounting for products; placing products on shelves, and dating and rotating products; maintaining all required records; serving as the person in charge in the absence of the food service manager; and leading workers in serving and the set up and disassembly of dining areas.
A high school diploma or equivalent and twelve (12) months of full-time experience in the preparation and cooking of food in a commercial food operation (acceptable experience includes short-order cooking.). Note: The completion of a vocational-technical school program in cooking, culinary arts, cooking management, restaurant management, or equivalent in which the primary focus of the program is on the management of a full-service cooking operation may substitute for the experience requirement.
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess the following:
• Full-time experience in food preparation and quantity cooking in a full-service restaurant or institutional kitchen
• Experience as a supervisor in a commercial food operation (short order, full-service restaurant or institutional)
• One (1) year of work experience in preparing, cooking and serving food in a food service operation
• Knowledge of safety and sanitation practices in a culinary environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication and proficient computer skills
Pay grade 8 – $14,959.16 to $25,388.59. This is a 10-month position paid on a 12-month basis. Salary will be based on the number of days worked. Benefit options include life, disability, dental and health insurance, annual/sick leave and Employees’ Retirement.
