Four Georgia school districts and hundreds of public schools have been labeled “Distinguished”.
The Georgia Board of Education approved a list of Title 1 Distinguished Schools and Title 1 Distinguished Districts at its October meeting. Schools labeled "distinguished" for the first year will receive a certificate. Schools that have received the "distinguished" label for two or more years will receive a monetary award. Each of the four districts will receive an award of $50,000.
“These schools and school districts are rising to the challenge,” said State Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox. “They are doing a great job getting more students to meet academic goals.”
The four districts are:
- Large District (over 10,000 students): Forsyth County - Medium District (4,000-9,999 students): Tift County - Small District (2,000-3,999 students): Lamar County - Very Small District (Under 2,000): Glascock County
