Divisions

School Improvement
School Improvement designs and implements a coherent and sustained statewide system to provide local education agencies (LEAs) and schools in Georgia with necessary tools and resources as well as intensive support for schools not making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).

Learning Support
The Division of Learning Support implements programs and services to support successful academic achievement and school completion for all students. These programs include school counseling, school social work, school psychology, SST (Student Support Team), alternative education, school nurses, magnet schools, Georgia Learn and Serve, Hospital Homebound, Governor’s Honors Program, Georgia Scholar Program, Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship, and the United States Senate Youth Program. The division facilitates success for all children by assuring that delivery of these services is efficient and timely, and that they meet the mandates of federal, state, and local regulations.

Needs Improvement Schools and Statewide System of Support
The Division of Needs Improvement Schools and Statewide System of support provides a statewide system of support for all schools in Needs Improvement status and coordinates the work of the following agencies: Georgia Department of Education, Regional Educational Service Agencies (RESAs), Georgia Learning Resources System (GLRSs), Education Technology Centers (ETCs), the SACS/CASI Partnership, and college and university representatives.

State-Directed Schools
The Division of State-Directed Schools provides a full-time state director for each Title I State-Directed school (Needs Improvement Levels 5 and higher) and works with these schools to write, implement, and monitor 45-60 day actions plans.

Teacher and Leader Quality
The Division of Teacher and Leader Quality impacts student achievement by providing programs and resources to enhance teacher and leader quality that include the following: Title II, Part A grant awards, CLASS Keys and Leader Keys evaluation systems, National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, and professional learning.

Education Support
Education Support provides technical assistance, resources, and program monitoring of local education agencies to ensure that all children have an opportunity to obtain a high quality education and to achieve proficiency on high academic standards.
